*Spasticity is a condition in which muscles are tight or stiff. For example, your hand may stay clenched in a fist or your knee may be hard to bend. At times the muscles may jerk or spasm uncontrollably. It can interfere with your ability to move, speak, or walk normally.
So you are already suffering from muscle spasticity, I do not need to explain what it is or the mechanics behind it because if you have it, then chances are you do your own research. You have talked to numerous doctors, read a daunting number of articles, and found little to no help outside of heavy medication. If you have looked to traditional medicine and found it to be just a “band-aid” I encourage you to read on. I will explain what PRP is, how it can help to reduce your spasticity, or in many cases remove it all together. We have so far seen amazing results in our patients, we have seen numbness subside, we have seen atrophy subside, we have seen new tissue regrow, healthy blood begin to flow again, pain subside, movement increase, range of motion increase, muscle regeneration, and decreased chronic inflammation. Dr Jenn West Palm Beach
We had a patient recently who suffered a stroke and massive damage to the left side of his body. He suffered immense pain, immobilization, tingling and numb sensations constantly, deterioration of muscle tissue due to low blood flow leading to atrophy of the left arm and leg. If you have had a stroke then I don’t need to explain the life changing damage this causes on your well being. Our goal at MedClub is to increase quality of life with the implementation of truly functional medicine. We used Platelet Rich Plasma to treat this patient, along with pin point injections of lidocaine to temporarily unlock and increase the blood flow to the area. If we can increase blood flow to an area, we can inject the Platelets and give them a much stronger chance of creating the growth factors and chemical reactions they need to. The layman’s explanation is this: Platelets come from Your body, we extract them from the blood, concentrate them, re-inject them into a target area, they go to work rebuilding new tissue by stimulating stem cells within the surrounding area. There are no downsides, no contraindications, no side effects because they already exist inside of you, we simply concentrate them and give them a specific task to complete.
So now that you have a general understanding of Platelet function, I will continue to explain the treatment plan for our stroke patient. We focused on one area at a time, he was having real trouble in his forearm so instead of treating the forearm directly we wanted to find the root cause of why oxygenated blood was not flowing to that appendage. It turns out he had spastic muscles in his neck and shoulder which was causing decreased blood flow to the rest of the arm. So we started to treat these areas first by unlocking them with point injections, then by targeting PRP to heal the spastic muscle groups. This has led to decreased inflammation, restored blood flow, new tissue, and new muscle. He has restored movement, much less pain, and the overall area is much less spastic. This is an optimal outcome for this procedure, we will next start to target the forearm directly once blood flow is increased. Then we will move on to the hip, then the leg, sexual organs, and head. We do not want to treat all areas at once because a blanket effect will minimize the restorative actions brought on by the PRP. We want to see the highest growth factor production possible so we treat him every few months to allow his body the natural time it needs to completely restore each area before moving to the next.
The injections of Plasma are not painful but could be described as a dull burning sensation. The difference between this and say; Cortisone injections is that Cortisone is a band aid. Meaning that for a short time the Cortisone will lower the inflammation, but when it wears off the inflammation will return. There is no repairing or restorative functions to Cortisone, it just stops the pain while it is active. It does not start a permanent healing process. Cortisone is also not for long term use, after a while it will start to make the surrounding tissue very fragile, leading to an overall degenerative effect possibly causing permanent necrosis. So it is closer to “pain management” than anything else in my opinion.
I have always been one to find the real cause of an illness, not just fix a symptom with a band-aid. There is no longevity in fixing symptoms, because if the real issue is not dealt with, the patient will eventually return to suffering. We practice concierge medicine (house calls) at MedClub, we do not accept insurance because insurance limits our time and resources spent with a patient. Our visits usually last hours, we want to get to a point where we fully understand the patients true level of health, their real concerns, and the roots of the problem. We do not charge exuberant fees or require pricey retainers. We charge for time, and the procedure per diem. Each client gets our personal contact information which they can use at any time day or night to refill prescriptions, book appointments, schedule house calls, or just obtain information. We believe everyone should get the best medical care they can afford. We believe in the highest standard possible for customer service and our customer return rate is above 90%.
