Sermorelin Injection Therapy

Sermorelin is a growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) analog, prescribed to support the body’s own natural growth hormone production rather than replacing it directly. Sermorelin binds to receptors in the pituitary gland to stimulate pulsatile growth hormone release, working with the body’s existing hormonal feedback system[1,3].

In clinical research, sermorelin injections have been studied for their effect on lean body mass, with research in older men showing significant increases following treatment[1]. A 5-month placebo-controlled trial using the same active GHRH fragment found in sermorelin also observed increases in lean body mass alongside favorable changes in insulin sensitivity in treated participants compared to placebo, supporting a potential role for sermorelin-type injections in both lean muscle support and metabolic function[2].

Because sermorelin stimulates the pituitary rather than supplying growth hormone directly, it preserves the body’s natural feedback regulation โ€” a mechanism reviewed alongside safety and efficacy data for growth hormone secretagogues in the broader research literature[3]. Your treatment plan, including whether sermorelin is appropriate for you, is determined by a licensed clinician based on your individual health history โ€” see full disclosures and referenced studies below.

Therapy Titration
โ–ผ

Treatment follows a titration approach, with injections administered 5 nights per week and dosing adjusted over time based on individual response.

Male patients typically start around 240 mcg per dose, titrated up to a maximum of 500 mcg per dose.

Female patients typically start lower, around 60 mcg per dose, titrated up to a maximum of approximately 240 mcg per dose.

All titration schedules are individualized and determined during your consultation, so the duration of therapy depends on your specific dosing plan rather than a fixed timeline.

These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Do not use sermorelin if you have an active malignancy or history of certain cancers, a pituitary or hypothalamic tumor, or a known allergy to sermorelin. Avoid use if pregnant, may become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Seek emergency care immediately for signs of a severe allergic reaction, including hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Common side effects include injection-site irritation, headache, flushing, and nausea. Inform your provider of all medical conditions and medications before starting therapy.

This peer-reviewed review examines growth hormone secretagogues, including sermorelin injections, and their effects on the body’s own hormone signaling. It highlights research in which sermorelin injections produced dose-dependent increases in growth hormone and IGF-1 levels in older men, along with a significant rise in lean body mass, supporting sermorelin’s role as a stimulator of natural growth hormone production.

In this 5-month, single-blind, placebo-controlled trial, researchers gave age-advanced men and women nightly injections of a GHRH(1-29) analog (the same active fragment used in sermorelin) and tracked body composition and metabolic markers using DEXA scans and insulin-sensitivity testing. Compared with placebo, treated participants saw increases in lean body mass along with favorable changes in insulin sensitivity, supporting a role for sermorelin-type injections in both lean muscle support and metabolic function.

This review in a peer-reviewed sexual medicine journal evaluates the safety and efficacy data behind growth hormone secretagogues, including GHRH analogs like sermorelin. It describes how sermorelin binds pituitary receptors to stimulate the body’s own pulsatile growth hormone release, preserving natural feedback regulation, and summarizes clinical findings on downstream effects relevant to fat and lean tissue metabolism compared with direct growth hormone administration.

This clinical review chapter summarizes a short-term trial of a GHRH(1-44) analog โ€” a related but longer fragment than the GHRH(1-29) form used in sermorelin โ€” in 10 postmenopausal women. Over 3 months, participants saw increases in both growth hormone and IGF-1 levels along with reductions in visceral fat, along with improvements in some measures of physical function. The trial was small and non-placebo-controlled, so these findings should be read as preliminary rather than conclusive for women specifically.

Important Information

Sermorelin Injection Therapy โ€” Safety Considerations

The statements on this page have not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Sermorelin is compounded by a licensed pharmacy. Compounded medications, including sermorelin, are not FDA-approved and have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, efficacy, or quality. This treatment is available only following an online medical evaluation, and a licensed provider will determine whether sermorelin, and which dosing plan, is appropriate for you based on your individual health history.

Individual results and experiences with sermorelin therapy vary, and outcomes are not guaranteed.

Response May Differ Between Men and Women

Available research suggests men and women may not respond identically to sermorelin and related GHRH-analog therapy. While both sexes show increases in growth hormone and IGF-1 levels, some studies have found effects on lean body mass and other outcomes more consistently in men, with more limited and preliminary research available specifically in women. Your provider will set expectations for your individual treatment plan based on your health profile.

Who Should NOT Take Sermorelin

Sermorelin is not appropriate for everyone. Your provider will review your health history, but in general sermorelin should be avoided by individuals who:

  • Have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to sermorelin or any component of the formulation
  • Have an active malignancy or history of certain cancers, since growth hormone and IGF-1 can support tissue growth
  • Are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, due to insufficient safety data
  • Have a pituitary or hypothalamic tumor, or a history of pituitary surgery or radiation
  • Have uncontrolled diabetes, since elevated growth hormone can affect blood glucose and insulin sensitivity

Common Side Effects

The most commonly reported side effects include irritation, redness, or swelling at the injection site, headache, flushing, and nausea. Serious adverse effects are uncommon under medical supervision.

Seek emergency medical care immediately if you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction, including hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Medical Disclosure

Inform your provider of all pre-existing conditions โ€” especially any history of cancer, pituitary or hormonal disorders, diabetes, or thyroid conditions โ€” and all current medications and supplements before starting therapy, as sermorelin may interact with glucocorticoids, insulin, and other diabetes medications.
