Struggling at work with a dreaded hangover? Maybe you had a long run or workout that left you feeling tired? More than likely you have had at least one of these things in your life. Now there is a quick fix to give you that extra energy or immune boost to get you over the hump.
The best part about this easy fix is it can be personalized to each individual. Since we are not made the same, all the treatments should not be the same.
In the field of medicine, infusions have began to make an appearance. I personally was skeptical but decided to give it a try. I tried it one morning when I was feeling a little more sluggish than normal. To my surprise, I had more energy and felt ready to take on the day.
The infusion I tried for being lethargic and tired was a combination of all the nutrients including Riboflavin 5-Phosphate (B2), Glutamine, Hydroxocobalamin (B12), Ascorbic Acid, Thiamine (B1), Niacinamide (B3), Pyridoxine HCL (B6), Arginine HCL, Citrulline, L-Isoleucine, magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate, Leucine, L-Valine, Taurine, Selenium and Glutathione.
Without going into each component, I will summarize as all the B-vitamins gave me energy, the amino acids assist my body in delivering all the essentials for my body to run efficiently, and the mineral and electrolytes helped my mental clarity.
It is an IV (intravenous peripheral catheter) that delivers minerals, vitamins and amino acids directly to your blood. It is the quickest and easiest way to supply your body with essential nutrients that it needs in stress and in everyday life. Why not just take a multivitamin? Multivitamin tablets are a great everyday supplement and their use should not be minimized at all, but infusion works completely differently. When you take a medication by mouth, it takes a while for your stomach acid to break down the pill and it takes even more time for your body to absorb it. Not all of it is absorbed, especially if your gut biome is altered from stress of exercise, illness, emotional stress or excessive alcohol. There are many factors that affect absorption, but when these nutrients are infused directly into your blood via an IV, there is no absorption factors to account for.
Infusions are noninvasive and help no matter what is going on with you. When we first get to your home or office, we have you fill out a few papers and a consent. After the paperwork is completed, we start an IV in your arm and you sit back and relax. Over the next several minutes, a bag of saline and nutrients is infused into your blood stream. Once the bag is empty, your treatment is complete and the effects are felt nearly instant.
There are very specific combinations we use to make your individual infusion. One of the more common additives is Methionine Inositol Choline (MIC) plus B12. This additive has several different parts but all of the parts put together leads to an increase in energy level and fat removal. The M in “MIC” is the methionine which is an essential amino acid. An essential amino acid means that it is a nutrient our bodies need to work properly, but we cannot make it ourselves. This amino acid works as a lipotropic agent. It helps the liver work more efficiently, mobilizes fat and cholesterol thereby helping us to lose weight. The only side effect to this infusion is a spike in your energy level.
The most popular last minute call we get is the “Rise and Shine” infusion. This infusion is very rich in electrolytes and minerals and helps to combat the symptoms of a hangover. We even put in a medication to help with nausea. As this nutrient combination is infused, it is fun to watch the person go from miserable to functioning at a normal level. The biggest problem with drinking too much is the dehydration and electrolyte depletion. This combination leads to the hangover headache, foggy head and sluggish feeling. While drinking water or gatorade helps a little if you aren’t too nauseated to keep it down, a lot of what we ingest doesn’t get absorbed because of the temporary disruption of gut biome from the night before. Most commonly, we get a call and go to someone’s office to infuse them so they can tackle their day… whether that means work or kids.
Athletes, MMA fighters and weightlifters are best suited for either the infusion I had that combines all the essential nutrients into one bag or another combination that we have found that helps with performance and assist with muscle and joint recovery. It contains many of the B-vitamins which helps to push through a tough workout or long run. If infused after a workout it helps to restore energy and replenish the body of the vitamins that were used. It is also very heavy in amino acids which helps to repair and build muscles. Whether this is infused before or after a workout, it will use these amino acids to repair or build new muscle and helps to protect joints. The amino acid, L-Carnitine, in this infusion has been show to help aid in metabolism therefore decreasing fat mass while preserving muscle during exercise and reducing muscle fatigue.
What is great about these infusions is they can be tailored to each individual and in the comfort of their own home. Here are the different ailments and remedies that we infuse regularly.
Hangovers: We can adjust the nutrient IV drip for the professional that had a long night out. This drip focuses on rehydration of fluids and rapidly replaces needed electrolytes and minerals. So the end result is a vanishing headache, better mood and boosts energy for each person to tackle the day ahead without the hangover misery. Even without drinking alcohol heavily, when you are up all night, you have that same foggy headed feeling. This brings the normal back to your day.
